Mashings and ramblings of a nerd
About
Greetings and welcome to my small corner of the interwebs!
My goal for this website is to be a personal blog of sorts. I like several different areas/subject across a very broad spectrum. I figure most of my blogging will deal with application development, but I will also cross into the lines of Magic: The Gathering, Sports, among other things.
Application development: I’m a .NET programmer for web application by day for a small company in Hiawatha, Iowa. I can be seen doing business layer development, presentation layer development, and data layer development. Basically, I can work on all the aspects of software development, although I wouldn’t put to much faith in my graphic design abilities or lack thereof. I also will be touching WordPress plugin development, android development as well as other things that come by in regards to applications! In the professional world, I’ve been a Web Developer for seven-and-a-half years already. Not too shabby for a guy only 28! I started off as an ASP developer, but with the changing times, everything I’ve worked on has transitioned over to .NET. I don’t mind I can learn and code whatever needs to be done for a client, whether it’s VB.NET, C#.NET, ASP, or PHP. I’m always open to learning new things!
Magic: The Gathering: I’m an avid gamer, in particular with a collectible card game called Magic: The Gathering developed by a company in Washington state called Wizards of the Coast. I’ve been playing the game on and off for the better half of 15 years. I’ve stepped into a more competitive environment over the past couple of years. This year I was able to come away as the State Champion of Iowa of the Standard Format. I also Top 8′d my first PTQ this fall as well. What is to “Top 8″ you say? Well I’ll tell you! Depending on the number of players in a tournament, there will be a set number of swiss rounds where players will play each other. The top eight players with the best record and tie breakers will play in a mini single elimination tournament to determine the winner of the tournament. I don’t know how much I’ll touch on mtg as it’s commonly referred to as on this site, but I might have a draft review or a deck write up from time to time.
Sports: Many folks that know me personally will know that I’m a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. I was raised by my late grandfather to like those teams, and I’ll be a fan of these teams until my time on this realm of existence has faltered. I won’t just write about The Cubs or the Bears per se, but I will write about whatever catches my eye/ears in the world of Major League Baseball or the National Football League. I will talk about sports all day given I have a listener.
Music: I’m an avid music listener. I like many genres of music ranging from the hardcore Black/Death Metal from Europe like Arch Enemy or Immortal to the Opera of Andrea Bocelli with pretty much in between save Pop and Country music. With that said I have some pretty strong opinions on music, and it will make for an interesting conversation. A person I knew was frustrated because he couldn’t figure out my “music algorithm” of listening habits. At some point I might drop a top-ten favorite bands or something in the future.
